Going Out: The Hollywood Bowl
Recently I attended the Music of Wes Anderson Films, an evening that perfectly blended cinema, nostalgia, and live orchestral performance. Hearing native Angelenos Jackson Browne, Beck, Rufus Wainwright with Alexandre Desplat's beautiful scores performed under the stars reminded me why the Bowl remains one of the city's most magical summer traditions.
There's something uniquely Los Angeles about watching world-class musicians perform as the sun sets over the Hollywood Hills.
There are still great performances ahead before the season concludes, including concerts by David Byrne, St. Vincent, John Legend, Pink Martini, Jazz at the Bowl, and several popular film nights accompanied by live orchestra. If you haven't been this season, JUST GO! I know the parking is a hassle, but it's well worth packing your picnic and spending an evening outdoors before summer slips away. By the end of the night, I was feeling happy and proud I made the effort. An LA summer tradition that is a must do.
Eating Out: Budonoki
One of the pleasures of working in Los Feliz is discovering neighborhoods that continue to evolve, and Virgil Village has quietly become one of Los Angeles' most exciting culinary destinations. A recent favorite is Budonoki, where Japanese flavors meet creative cocktails in a relaxed neighborhood setting.
The menu is approachable yet inventive, making it equally suited for a casual dinner with friends or a relaxed client meeting after work. Like many of my favorite neighborhood restaurants, it feels genuinely local. Located in Virgil Village, the neighborhood continues to evolve. You never know what great coffee shop, gallery, or restaurant you'll discover next.
